TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER, RESEARCH,
TRAINING AND EDUCATION
IN SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
In the framework of the three years Agreement “Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture” - AGROINNOVA co-operates with the Italian Ministry for Environment, Land and Sea (IMELS) for transferring innovative scientific and technological knowledge to China, to reduce the use of pesticides and fertilisers in agriculture, reduce the use of water for irrigation, prevent soil erosion and desertification, increase food quality and safety. In year 2000, IMELS launched the Sino-Italian Cooperation Program for Environmental Protection with the China State Environment Protection Administration (SEPA), subsequently enlarged to other administrations and institutions among which the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Beijing and Shanghai Municipalities. The program aims at the realization of demonstration and technology transfer projects, feasibility studies, capacity building and training activities in several environmental sectors (e.g. protection and conservation of natural resources, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, low emission transportation systems, sustainable agriculture, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, phase out of consumption and production of hazardous chemicals, etc.). Since the launch of the Program, AGROINNOVA of the University of Torino has been entrusted by IMELS to be promoter and coordinator of projects and initiatives in the sustainable agriculture sector.
